FRENCH HORN
IVAN WONG, 17, came from Hongkong. He is studying grade 12 at Central
Collegiate. He started learning to play the french horn four years ago, and has won
numerous awards at both Hongkong and Moose Jaw music festivals. He was also the
youngest brass player in the ASIAN YOUTH ORCHESTRA 90', which rehearsed in Japan, under
the conducting of Sir Yehudi Menuhin. The orchestra also held numerous concerts with
Julian Lloyd Webber in Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and Hongkong. After Ivan arrived in
Canada last August, he joined the Central Collegiate symphonic band and the concert choir.
He also played the french horn in the musical, West Side Story last November.
Ivan intends to study at the University of Toronto this September.
ACCOMPANIST
CHERITH JAMES, 18, graduated from Central Collegiate in 1990. She has
won numerous awards at both the local and provincial festivals. For four years she
has been a student of William Moore of the University of Regina.
Her most recent honour was winning the SMFA Concerto Competition in March. The prize
for this was $1,000 as well as the opportunity to play with the Regina Symphony Orchestra
in the 1991-92 season. Cherith plans to study music at the University of British
Columbia in the fall.
